Report on Visit to Iran by President ACP to attend UAAA Meeting (17- 23 Jun2012)




1. Meeting with IRMSCF The Islamic Republic of Iran Mountaineering and Sport Climbing Federation (IMSCF) hosted the Council Meeting of the Union of Asian Alpine Associations (UIAA) from 20 to 23 June 2012 at Tabriz, Iran. IMSCF especially invited Lt Col Manzoor Hussain (Retd), President Alpine Club of Pakistan (ACP) to participate in the Council Meeting as an observer. President ACP arrived in Tehran, Iran on 17th June 2012 and in the afternoon held meeting with the President IMSCF Mr Mahmoud Shoai and other officials of IMSCF in the IMSCF office located in Northern Tehran. During the meeting both President IMSCF and President ACP reiterated the bonds of friendship between Iran and Pakistan, especially in the backdrop of historical, cultural and religious closeness. Various measures to increase collaboration between the two federations were discussed to cultivate brotherly friendship relations between youth of the two countries in the field of outdoor adventure as under:-

(1) Organise youth exchange programmes, at least once a year in which selected youth should visit each other and participate in package      tour to include participation in the adventure activities, camping and sightseeing etc.
(2) ACP and IMSCF to launch joint expeditions to low mountains exclusively for youth in Pakistan for both men and women.
(3) Iranian mountaineers visiting Pakistan shall receive cooperation from ACP as on required basis.
(4) Launch Joint Iran Pakistan expeditions to higher mountains on mutually agreed terms and conditions.
(5) Iranian women mountaineers to visit Pakistani universities and colleges for motivational presentations and lectures to the women to      motivate them to participate in the adventure activities.

e. IMSCF offered following assistance to the Alpine Club of Pakistan:-

(1) Services of mountaineering instructors for training youth in the art of rock, ice climbing and mountaineering.
(2) Services of coaches and judges to train ACP coaches and judges in sport climbing.

In the end President ACP thanked IMSCF for the hospitality extended to him and presented ACP shield and flag to the President IMSCF.

2. On 18th June President ACP was the Chief Guest on the finals of the National Sport Climbing Competition (men) held prior to the Asia Cup at the base of the Mt Devamand (.), highest Iranian mountain to finalise the Iranian Sport Climbing team for participation in the Asian Championship being held in Iran in second week of July2012.

3. President ACP, later attended the Council meeting of Union of the Asian Alpine Association (UAAA) at Tabriz on 23 June, which interalia discussed issues relating to joint programmes of Asian level including youth camps as well as Asian Women mountaineering expedition. President ACP who is also founding member of UAAA emphasis on enhancing proactive role of UAAA by launching more joint collaboration programmes to foster friendship amongst the Asian mountaineering and climbing federations. The issue of large number of deaths of climbers on Mt Everest was also discussed and it was agreed to approach permit issuing authorities/ministries of Nepal and other mountain host countries to address the issue and restrict issue of climbing permits to maximum permissible limits on Mt Everest and other high mountains of Himalayas as well as Karakoram. It may be mentioned that ACP is hosting the General Assembly of UAAA in Pakistan in Oct 2012.
