Pakistan Gasherbrum II Golden Jubilee Expedition – 2006 Reaches the famous glacial junction Concordia
  1. The Pakistan Gasherbrum II Golden Jubilee Expedition – 2006 making good progress on their trek to the Base Camp of 8035 metre high Mount Gasherbrum II located on upper Baltoro glacier arrived at Urdokass yesterday afternoon. Urdokass located halfway of their approach march is a beautiful camping area astride Baltoro glacier. It may be mentioned that the Expedition had embarked on their 10 days trek from the last village Askole in the Shigar Valley on 10 July 06. The Expedition which now treks on the solid ice of the Baltoro glacier reported heavy snowfall in the area for the past two days which has impeded their progress on the trek. The area is in grip of severe bad weather for the past three days and according to the met reports it will persist in the area for another couple of days.

  2. The Pakistan expedition launched to commemorate the golden jubilee of the first ascent of Gasherbrum II is being led by Lt Col Amjad Wali, Commandant Army High Altitude School, Rattu. Other members of the expedition include Maj Dr Muhammad Babar Khan, Capt Asif Wali, N/Sub Sher Dullah, Nk Haji Akbar, Muhamamd Taqi, Hussain Parwana, Ali Muhammad and Mumtaz Ahmed. All members are reported to be in good health.

  3. The expedition hopes to reach the Base Camp by 19 July 06.
